Dear Outsider,

I’ve created bi-monthly newsletter called TheOutsider, with articles about music, the music industry, and what we are calling the new rules of A&R and breaking into the business. I’ve made it freely available on the home page of my blog site because it has generated such interest from other music enthusiasts.

Wow. I’ve stumbled on a better way to explore music, hear music, and make music work for you.

As a musician, your demo is your calling card. It can help you expand your audience, and it’s your ticket to getting noticed by record labels, so it’s important to get it right. Contrary to popular belief, demo recording doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive. If your songs are great, listeners will hear it, no matter how much cash you spent on the recording.

Once you’ve written that great song or completed your writer/artist masters or demos, you face the prospect of getting heard by the music industry. You take off your creative songwriter hat and put on your marketing hat. For some of you, this is an exciting challenge. For others, it runs a close second to major surgery.

Like anything else, though, it gets much less daunting when you have some practical information. Let’s start by understanding the barriers you may encounter when trying to get through the doors of the music industry.

Need ideas on how to spread the news that you are ready to hit the music scene? Don’t know where to start your music marketing and promotional efforts? Some tips presented here are tried, true and some are new, to get the word out on your music and you.

BONNEY LAKE COUPLE HITS THE JACKPOT!

$65,000 Windfall Calls for a Romantic Celebration

OLYMPIA — Thomas and Janet Clark of Bonney Lake are planning a fancy date after winning $65,000 by playing Hit 5. Thomas, a 37-year-old patient care representative, was surfing the Web the other day and decided to check the numbers on a Hit 5ticket his wife purchased.

When he gazed at the winning numbers page on the Lottery Web site, he couldn’t believe his eyes. He slowly read each number allowed, to make sure they really matched. When he was finally sure, he called out to his wife.

“Look dear, we won! We won the Lottery!” Thomas screamed.

Janet is accustomed to her husband’s practical jokes, especially jokes about winning the Lottery, and didn’t believe him.

“I had to physically show her the ticket and print out for her to believe me!” Thomas laughed.

Thomas said they never imagined winning this big and their excitement prevented them from getting any sleep.

Although they hit the jackpot, the Clarks don’t anticipate any huge splurges.

“We’re going to put the money in the bank and think about what we’re going to do for a while. All we know for sure is that we plan on going out for a nice dinner to celebrate.”

The Clarks won $65,000 when they matched all five numbers in the March 3 Hit 5 drawing, 11-14-26-28-38. They split the cashpot of $130,000 with one other Hit 5 winner. The Clarks’ ticket was purchased at Fred Meyer located at 20904 Highway 410 in Bonney Lake.
